Sports Accident Plans
Academic Risk Management's Sports Insurance Program pays hospital, surgical and
medical expenses incurred due to accidental injury during the practice and play of
scheduled, sponsored and supervised events including travel to and from venues. The
school is able to choose from a variety of limits and deductibles and in the process
meet any budgetary cost constraint that might exist.
Buying insurance is the process of transferring risk that you cannot afford, or
choose not to accept. On the other hand, some risks are so small that you can
retain or accept full responsibility for the potential loss. When you share the
risk, both financially and administratively, this type of insurance will be written
with a Self Insured Retention or Deductible to reflect your share of the risk. Then,
when a loss occurs, you pay the retention or the deductible and our insurance company
will pay the balance of the loss subject to policy limits and terms.
When financially viable, this approach can work to decrease your insurance costs
by reducing administrative expenses and putting you in the position of being the
beneficiary of good experience when you succeed in controlling your losses. We
will carefully review your loss history and make recommendations relative to the
most cost effective combination of self insurance, deductibles and insurance protection.
When you package this type of insurance with the Accident and Health insurance
you increase your leverage when purchasing insurance. Unfortunately, few insurance
companies are able to write the Special Risk Accident and Health coverage which
schools require. Fortunately, ARM is unique in that we are able to underwrite all
